Privacy Policy

1. Our approach

Balum ("we", "us", "our") is built to be privacy-first. Most of what you do in the App stays on your device. We do not show ads, and we do not sell your personal data. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.

2. What stays only on your device

The following never leaves your device and is never uploaded to us:

Your journal entries (private by design).
Your location / GPS coordinates — used only on your device to calculate prayer times and Qiblah direction.
Your language, settings, and preferences.
Your mood check-ins.
Your progress (streaks, points, habits) — unless you choose to sign in and sync (see below).

3. What we collect if you choose to sign in

Balum works without an account. Signing in is optional. If you sign in with Google Sign-In to back up and sync across devices, we collect and store on our hosting provider (Supabase):

Your name and email address (provided by Google).
A user identifier for your account.
Your progress data: streaks, points/XP, badges, daily completions, and your saved bookmarks.

We do not receive your Google password. Your journal remains on your device and is not synced.

4. How we use your information

We use the limited information above to:

provide and sync the App's features across your devices;
deliver reminders and notifications you enable (such as prayer-time reminders);
maintain security and prevent abuse; and
comply with our legal obligations.

We do not use your data for advertising and do not sell or rent it.

5. Push notifications

If you enable notifications, we process the technical information needed to deliver them. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

6. Third-party services

We rely on a small number of service providers that process data on our behalf:

Google — for optional sign-in. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Supabase — for secure hosting and storage of synced account data. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.

These providers are bound to handle data only as needed to provide their services.

7. Data retention and deletion

On-device data is removed when you delete the App.
Synced account data is kept while your account is active. You can request deletion at any time by emailing hello@balum.app.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

9. Children

Balum is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International transfers

Our service providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or similar laws), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact hello@balum.app.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the App.
